The 'Sathi Pirith Chant' in association with the Poson Poyaday religious programme of Anuradhapura Mahaviharaya was held with much festivity. A large number of venerable Bhikkhus of Anuradhapura Mahaviharaya participated in this week-long chanting of Pirith held at the Pirith Mandapaya under the shade of Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi.
The Sathi Pirith was commenced according to the tradition with bringing the sacred water from the Thisa Wewa tank ceremonially in a procession to Mahaviharaya. Afterwards, the venerable Bhikkhus chanted Pirith day and night, continually for a whole week. At the end of the chanting, the Sathi Pirith was concluded with the traditional reading of the Dorakada Asna by a Devadutha in the night of 22nd. After offering the Heel Dana and Noon Dana to the venerable Bhikkhus, the religious programme of Sathi Pirith chant at Anuradhapura Mahaviharaya ended.
