The Nikini Fullmoon Poya Day programme of the Poya day religious programme series of Anuradhapura Mahaviharaya was held on 17th August very successfully under the shade of the Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi.
Devotees were placed on the eight precepts at 6.00 am as usual and Ven. Ankumbure Rewatha Thero conducted the programme. The morning Buddha Pooja was offered at 6.30 am. Devotees had the break for morning Dana from 7.00 am to 8.00 am.
Senior Lecturer of Sri Lanka Bhiksu University Dr. Ven. Kumbugodaare Pangnaloka (PhD) Thero delivered the first Dhamma Talk of the day at 8.00 am. "Lobha Mula Sith saha Dvesha Mula Sith" was the topic of the Dhamma talk. At 9.00 am the devotees had the opportunity to clarify the questions arisen from the Dhamma talk. The Layman's Discourse at 9.15 am on the topic of "Buddha Dhamma and the Environment" was delivered by the Senior Lecturer of Si Lanka Bhiksu University Dr. Aruna Walpola. At 10.15 am the devotees had the opportunity to discuss their problems in Dhamma. The mid day Buddha Pooja was offered as usual at 10.30 am. The devotees had the interval for the mid day Dana at 11.00 am.
Jathaka Story Dhamma Talk at 12.00 noon was delivered by Bhanaka Rajakeeya Panditha Ven. Ankumbure Rewatha Thero. Incumbent of Anuradhapura Jethawanaramaya Temple Ven. Ihalahalmillewe Rathanapala Nayaka Thero delivered the second Dhamma Talk of the day at 1.00 pm. It was based upon the "Yo Balo Magngnathi Balyan" gatha of the Bala Waggaya of Dhammapada. Devotees had the opportunity to raise their questions in Dhamma at 2.00 pm. The break for Gilanpasa was given to the devotees at 2.15 pm.
The Damsaba Mandapaya was held at 2.45 pm and it was based upon the topic "Mamayanaya". Scholars Dr. Kallanchiye Rathanasiri Nayaka Thero, Mr. E. M. Dharmawardhana (MA) and Mr. Waduge Karunarathna (MA) participated in this Dhamma discussion.
The Meditation Programme at 4.00 pm was conducted as usual by Ven. Ipalawa Pemananda Thero. The final programme of the day, Bodhi Pooja was held at 5.00 pm conducted by Ven. Kehelwala Rewatha (BA) Thero. After the discontinuation of precepts at 5.55 pm, the successful Poya day religious programme was concluded at 6.00 pm.
Over ten thousand devotees observed the eight precepts on this Poya day while over fifteen thousand participated in the religious programme. They obtained a meaningful result from this religious programme through the proper learning of Dhamma matters, clarifying their questions in Dhamma and participating practically in meditation.
