A sacred Bodhi sapling sprouted from a seed of the esteemed Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi at the historical Anuradhapura Mahaviharaya was planted at the Chern Tawan International Meditation Centre of the Vimuttayalaya Institute in Chiang Rai Province, Thailand, on 28th October with great festivity. This sacred Bodhi was planted to mark the 55th anniversary of Thai Airways International Public Company Limited, 7th anniversary of the Chern Tawan International Meditation Centre and the completion of 60 years of diplomatic relations between Thailand and Sri Lanka.
The Binara Full Moon Day religious programme of the monthly Dana Seela Bhavana religious programme of Anuradhapura Mahaviharaya was held under the shade of the Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi on the whole day of 22nd September 2015 with the participation of thousands of devotees.
Commencing the programme at 6.00 am, Ven. Kanubichchiye Rathanajothi Thero of the Bomaluwa Temple placed the devotees on the eight precepts. The devotees were given a break for morning Dana at 7.00 am.
The Nikini month's programme of the monthly Meditation Programme of Anuradhapura Mahaviharaya was held very successfully on the Sunday 13th September. A large number of devotees participated in this meditation.
Under the complete supervision of Atamasthanadhipathi Most Ven. Dr. Pallegama Siriniwasa Nayaka Thero, Ven. Ranpathwila Wimalawansha (MA) Nayaka Thero conducted this meditation programme.
The Nikini Poyaday programme of the monthly Dana Seela Bhavana religious programme series of Anuradhapura Mahaviharaya was held on 29th August at the Sannipatha Shala under the shade of the Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi. Tens of thousands of devotees participated in this programme.
Ven. Kanubichchiye Rathanajothi Thero of the Bomaluwa Temple placed the devotees on the eight precepts at 6.00am commencing the religious programme, as usual. The break for the morning Dana was given at 7.00am.
The 'Abhayagiri Maha Dagaba' belonging to the Anuradhapura Atamasthana was declared open after the renovations by HE President Maithreepala Sirisena on the 31.07.2015. Renovations to this great Dagaba were handled by the Central Cultural Fund under the advice of Most Ven. Dr. Pallegama Siriniwasa Atamasthanadhipathi Nayaka Thero and with the approval of the Anuradhapura Atamasthana Committee. UNESCO provided the funds for this project while the renovations were done under the guidance of the Dept. of Archaeology.
The monthly Dana, Seela, Bhavana religious programme of the Anuradhapura Mahaviharaya was held on the Esala Fullmoon Day of 31st July with the participation of over ten thousand devotees.
The religious programme began as usual by placing the devotees on the eight precepts at 6.00am. After the morning Buddha Pooja at 6.30am, the devotees were given a break for the morning Heel Dana.
On the Esala Fullmoon Poya Day of 31st July Venerable Bhikkhus of the Anuradhapura Mahaviharaya performed the Pohoya Karma according to the tradition before observing Vas. Headed by Most Ven. Dr. Pallegama Siriniwasa Atamasthanadhipathi Nayaka Thero, Ven. Bhikkhus of the Mahaviharaya who gathered at the Mahavihara walked to the historical Lovamahapaya.
The annual Dalada Perahera of the Anuradhapura Mahaviharaya was held on 30th and 31st July with much festivity. At the auspicious moment in the 30th evening, Most Ven. Atamasthanadhipathi Nayaka Thero handed over the casket of relics to the Chief Secretary of the North Central Provincial Council. This casket was ceremonially carried with great piousness to the eastern gate of the Welimaluwa of the Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi.
The meritorious task of ceremonial opening of the world famous "Abayagiri Maha Dagaba" of the Abhayagiriya temple or the "Uttararamaya" belonging to the Anuradhapura Mahaviharaya after renovations will be held on the Esala Fullmoon Poyaday of 31st July. This meritorious occasion led by Atamasthanadhipathi Ven. Dr. Pallegama Siriniwasa Nayaka Thero, will be participated by HE President of Sri Lanka Maithreepala Sirisena and Prime Minister Ranil WIckramasinghe.
